This course provides a comprehensive year-long exploration of 3rd-grade mathematics, skillfully condensed into a single semester to afford each child a hands-on, immersive learning experience. The detailed curriculum, outlined below by months, is designed to foster engaging and active learning experiences, promoting effective communication and enjoyment. As an educator, my overarching goal is to inspire each learner to attain their personal best. Employing a Montessori approach, my teaching style involves the use of open-ended questions and a thorough understanding of individual learning preferences to create a positive impact.
The monthly curriculum is structured as follows, with flexibility offered for preferred class days:
Month of August or January (last 3 weeks of the month): Topic 1 - Teach and Review "Place Value, Rounding, Addition, and Subtraction"
Week 1: Place Value

Week 3: Adding two and three-digit numbers "with regrouping"
Week 4: Subtracting 2 and 3-digit numbers "with borrowing"
Month of February or September: Topic 2 - Multiplication and Division
Week 1: Multiplication review
Week 2: Multiplication 2 digits by 1 and 2-digit numbers "utilizing various methods to solve problems"
Week 3: Introduction to Division "dividing into equal parts"
Week 4: Division
Month of March or October: Topic 3 - Fraction Fun all month long
Week 1: Fraction intro and Review
Week 2: Identifying equivalent fractions

Week 4: Fraction word problems
Month of April or November: Topic 4 - Measurements and Geometry
Week 1: Measurements "what is measurement" Length

Week 1: Understanding Data Charts (Dec 1st)
Week 2: Graphing "line graphs, circle graphs, and labeling a graph"

Week 4: Word problem fun "time and money word problems"
